The Origin Story
It’s difficult to find eco-friendly home essentials that don’t contain plastic or harmful chemicals. During his sales days at the FMCG giant Unilever, Mayank Sisodia worked in the department dealing in liquid detergent and cleaners and felt concerned about the plastic bottling and their chemical-laden contents. Passionate about sustainability (he comes from a farming family), he eventually launched The Honest Home Company, which makes green and healthy household essentials like powder-to-liquid kitchen and floor cleaners, food wrappers and personal hygiene items (tissue paper rolls and napkins), all delivered in recycled, plastic-free packaging.
The Differentiator
The eco-focussed brand makes a diverse range of household products using organic raw materials free from toxic chemicals and containing little or no plastic. Again, the paper used for many of these items is sourced from industry leaders like the ITC and Aditya Birla Mills to maintain quality standards. The Honest Home Company claims to use only biodegradable materials for waste management products like garbage bags and pet waste bags. All products are made at its manufacturing unit at Rai in Sonipat, Haryana.
The Growth
The D2C brand sells through multiple channels, including its website, ecommerce marketplaces and q-commerce platforms (Amazon, Flipkart, JioMart, BigBasket, Blinkit and more) and offline retail in Delhi NCR. It earned about INR 14 Cr in revenue in FY23, sold 22 Lakh products and served around 50K households. It recently bagged an INR 1 Cr deal at Shark Tank India Season 3, a popular angel investing show.
What’s Next
The Honest Home Company wants to leverage its Shark Tank exposure to grow its retail footprint. By 2025, it will bet big on sustainability and adopt eco-friendly manufacturing practices. The brand will also expand its offline retail operations in southern and eastern India.
